How to couple roms model with wrf model
Hello,
I want to know how to couple roms model and wrf model.
In roms forum, I confirmed the following content about coupled model system.
So I sent john warner my e-mail. But I can't confirm whether to receive my e-mail.
Could I contact him? I want to contact him, please.
Thank you! Good day!

We have a modeling system that has coupled roms-swan-wrf. I can provide access/details if you send an email to me at
jcwarner@usgs.gov.
thanks,
john

Hello dear Scientist
I am working on dispersion of waste in environment and need coupling of ROMS and WRF but i cannot find any resources on how to do that in the website.
Kindly share links or tutorials if you have!
Thanks

Several people have done this, but it is not (yet?) part of the community version of ROMS. I suggest you contact John Warner (see above) to see if his branch meets your needs.

Re: How to couple roms model with wrf model
Hello all:
I was not able to attend the workshop in Rio, but heard it was a great success. Here is my spiel on the model coupling:
We have developed a modeling system that has coupled ROMS, WRF, SWAN, Inwave (infra-gravity waes), and CRIM (ice). Because we use roms, we also have all the roms bells/whistles, existing sediment, bio, etc. We are also advancing some of these capabilites as well, with a new light penetration algorithms, seagrass, etc. For the coupling, I use MCT, but it is a different flavor of data sharing controlled by cpp options rather than inport/export key words.
Over the years i have found it very difficult to develop such an advanced coupled system on someone else's website, mainly due to access limitations, differences in priorities, and in design philospophies. As we continue to advance this system, we may decide at some point to add another ocean model, use a different atm model, etc. That is why i dont want to be tied with any one specific web site. We need the flexibility to develop the system and add capabilities as our needs change.
So, as we continue to make advancements, these new capabilites can try to work their way back the the respective models. Foe example, I have implementd a two-way grid refinement flux conserving formulation for roms, and Rutgers has seen this capabilitiy and are adapting it to their methodolgoy for distribution. great. We have added new bottom roughness formulations to WRF, and I was recently in Boulder to help implement them for distriubiton in their model. I have added one-way concurrent grid refinement in SWAN, and hope to deliver this to those developers for possible distribution. etc etc.
So if people want this COAWST modeling system, great. Just send me an email and I can give you access. As far as "will this ever be distributed on the Rutgers site", well, probably not. It really does not belong on any one of these modeling sites.

Re: How to couple roms model with wrf model
thanx john
I have struggled to run an example in COAWST but unfortunately i couldn't and faced thousands of errors, most of them about openmp and gfortran.
thanx gustavo
CROAM manual was good and comprehensive but where can i get the coupler code?
What is meant by "p user@home.comp:∼/Research/CROAM/020711 croam scripts.tar "?

Re: How to couple roms model with wrf model
MCT only works in MPI.
so you can not compile with openmp.
if you are using wrf, do not select any options with smpar. only use dmpar.
we also have a forum to post issues related to the fully coupled model here:

Dear John,
I am also interested in WRF-SWAN-ROMS coupling. Now I feel troubled when tackling WRF-ROMS coupling, especially the regridding section.
Could you give me the code of COAWST? I had sent you an e-mail to the address: jcwarner@usgs.gov. Can you please check out if you had received my post? My e-mail address is jumping.chen5@gmail.com.

The code is maintained in a svn repository and is distributed thru subversion checkout. Please contact John Warner for code access at jcwarner@usgs.govcathy555 wrote:Dear John,

John,
I sent you an Email on Apr 25 2018. Could you please check if you have received it.
I am really interested in how the WRF-ROMS is coupled and how the coupled model will performace in some real cases.
Thanks
