USF Research Associates (post-doctoral) (12566 & 12567)
The College of Marine Science, University of South Florida, seeks two Research Associates (post-doctoral) (12566 & 12567) in coastal ocean circulation modeling and analyses. Successful candidates will engage in a coordinated program of observations and models toward understanding and forecasting the circulation of the west Florida continental shelf, including opportunities for collaborative work on coupled, physical/biological models and on models that link estuarine, coastal, and deep-ocean environments. Models in use include POM, ROMS, FVM, and HYCOM. Minimum qualifications for both positions are a PhD in Physical Oceanography (or related field) with a firm grounding in GFD, experience with either sigma, or hybrid, coordinate models, and good written and oral communication skills. Preference for one of these positions (Pos 12567) will be given to candidates with experience in blending observations with models though data assimilation.
These positions are with the CMS-USF Ocean Circulation Group in St. Petersburg, FL (see http://ocg6.marine.usf.edu and http://comps.marine.usf.edu for programmatic examples). Initial appointments are for one year, with extensions possible based on performance and funding availability. Salary for either position is individually negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The application closing date is 2/26/04.
